This is a very nice looking original Civil War currency from the
State of Florida.
This one is for the $5.00 denomination. It has The Tallahassee issue location
as well as the clear date of March 1st 1864 on the front of the
note. These notes were part of a $500,000 appropriation for the state of
Florida designed as relief for the families of Confederate soldiers. It is in
nice circulated condition and on the front of the note it is correctly hand
signed and numbered. In the center of the note it has the design that shows an
allegorical figure, likely Moneta, seated on bales of cotton with bags of coins
at her feet. On the left-hand side of the note it has the large oval of an
Indian holding a bow and arrow. On the right-hand side it has the oval image of
Justice and Ceres seated. It also has the pale red-orange "FIVE" overprint which
makes a nice touch on an already attractive note. This was added to help prevent counterfeiting
of the notes. This note comes in an acid free holder for preservation and
display. Florida Notes in any condition are tough to find and this one is a
nice one.
