Scarce Original Front Cannon Sight For an 18 Pounder Cannon
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great piece of Civil War artillery history. It is an original front blade style sight for a Civil War cannon. This one stands 3-1/4 inches tall and is about 5/8ths of an inch across. The side of the sight is marked "18 Pdr. S&G". This marking was to quickly identify the style cannon that it would fit on an 18 pounder size cannon and the "S&G" stands for siege & garrison. It is in very nice non-excavated unissued condition. This piece was part of the massive collection amassed by Bannerman of New York. Banner man bought up a large amount of the Civil War surplus and sold the pieces off for almost a century. That is why it is in such wonderful condition. This beauty will make a fine addition to any Civil War artillery collection.
