Fine Ink Autograph of Confederate General William Gaston Lewis of North Carolina

Here is a fine Ink Autograph of Confederate General William Gaston Lewis of North Carolina (1835-1901). Lewis was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on September 3rd 1835. He started the Civil War as 3rd Lieutenant of the 1st North Carolina. He fought at Gettysburg with the 43rd North Carolina where he took command of the regiment after Colonel Kenan was wounded. After the Battle of Cold Harbor, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in June of 1864. He received a wound during Jubal Early's raid on Washington in 1864. He was wounded again right at the end of the War at Farmville, Virginia on April 7th 1865. He returned to North Carolina after the war and lived until January 7th 1901. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on is mounted to the paper and measures 2-1/4th inches by 1/2 of an inch in overall size. It is a fine piece of history!
