Great Looking Original 1862 Dated .577 Caliber Civil War Enfield Military Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice looking gun! It is an original Civil War Enfield pattern .577 caliber rifle. This is the Civil War production made in England like would have been brought through the blockade. It has the 1862 date of production on the lockplate to go along with the "TOWER" arsenal stamp and also the British crown stamp. The action catches crisply on both of the two positions. The barrel is full-length and has the British proof marks still visible at the breech. The stamps include the "25" that denotes the bore of the gun as being .577 in caliber. The bore of the gun still has some of the lands and grooves of rifling visible but the bore is as dark as the rest of the gun. It has the original front sight still nicely intact with the rear sight missing in action. The gun has both of the sling swivels remaining. It has the original ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel that is in nice shape. The stock has a very pretty deep dark tone to the wood that makes it display quite well. On the front side of the stock, it has the circular stamping of the British Small Arms Trade. On the underside of the stock, behind the triggerguard, it has the maker marking stamp of the Bentley & Playfair Company. This is a very attractive looking Civil War 1862 dated Enfield pattern rifle that is complete and displays well.
