This is an authentic CDV image of Confederate General Leonidas Polk (1806-1864). It is a nice clear CDV of the General. Polk was a West Point graduate and also was an Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana. He reached the rank of Lieutenant General in the Confederacy. He entered the Confederate service as a private Major General on June 25th 1861. He was placed in charge of the Western Department but was replaced by Albert Sidney Johnston. He won the battle of Belmont and let the 1st Army Corp at the Battle of Shiloh. As commander of the Army of Mississippi he was sent to Georgia to help General Joe Johnston against Sherman's advance to Atlanta. He was killed by cannon fire on Pine Mountain near Marietta, Georgia on June 14th 1864. This is a great looking image of the general in his Bishop's attire. Across the bottom of the card stock it reads "Brady N.Y.". On the back of the card it has the desirable photographer marking of the firm of Anthony and notes that it was made from one of the Matthew Brady negatives. A fine CDV image of a Confederate Hero.
