Authentic Civil War 9 Inch Tall Medicine Bottle with Stopper

Here is an original bottle from the Civil War era! This is a handmade clear glass bottle that was designed to contain medicine. The side of the bottle has the hand painted notation of the contents. It reads "OL. CARUI." I Found that means oil of carui (oil of Caraway) which is a medicine to help the stomach. The label has the majority of the original glass cover remaining with some old chipping. On the bottom of the bottle you can feel the roughness where the bottle was made. This let you know that it was an early production bottle. At the top it has a nice original handmade stopper to complete the display. The stopper is frozen in place after all of the years. This one came from a collection in West Tennessee. The bottle stands 9 inches tall including the stopper and measures 2-3/4th inches across the bottom. The last picture shows how big it is beside of a dollar bill. A great piece for a medical Civil War display.
