Here is a neat original example of the Confederate States of America savings bond. This one was issued in October of 1862 and is for the smallest amount you find on a bond, issued for $100.00. This is one of the early series that was issued from the Confederate Capitol in Richmond, Virginia. The top portion has the likeness of the Edward C. Elmore. He was a very important man in the Confederate government. He held the position as Treasurer of the Confederacy. In the center of the bond top portion it has the image of a guard dog sleeping beside the treasury safes. At the bottom of the bond it has the correct number of original coupons intact. At certain dates the coupons could be cashed in to receive your interest from the bond. The bond and the coupons are each hand signed and numbered in old brown ink. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-48 in the bond book by Croswell and as B133 in Ball's Confederate Bond Book. They state that there were only 2,000 of these issued and this one is numbered "1174" on the coupons and the bond itself. This piece is nice and clear and would look great framed up on your wall. It is 100% authentic in all regards.
