Here is a merchant note from Alton, New Hampshire. This one was issued by J.Jones & A.H. Sawyer for the amount of 5 cents. It has the printed date of November 26th 1862. Jones and Sawyer were merchants in Alton. Alonzo Havington Sawyer (1827-85) served as Alton's postmaster during Lincoln's administration. The note measures 3-1/2 inches by 2 inches.
