Here is an original autograph of Thomas Bragg (1810-1872). Bragg was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on November 9th 1810. He served as the Governor of North Carolina before the Civil War. In November of 1861, Bragg served the Confederacy as Attorney general, replacing Judah P. Benjamin. He served in this position until March 18th 1862 when he resigned. The Civil War bankrupted Bragg but he rebuilt his law practice. He died on January 21st 1872 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina. One interesting note about Thomas Bragg is that Confederate General Braxton Bragg was his younger brother. The autograph is accompanied by a printed biography of his service as well as a modern Xerox image of the General. The paper that the autograph is on is a hand written letter written from Raleigh, North Carolina dated October 26th 1857. The paper measures 7-1/2inches by 9-1/2 inches in overall size. The letter is clear with the paper being reinforced along the reverse at the fold lines. The document is accompanied by a modern made xerox image of Bragg. It is a fine piece of history!
