This is an original 9th plate tintype image of a Civil War Union infantryman in his enlisted style frock coat military uniform. These tintype images were produced on a thin sheet of tin, hence the name. This
one is the size known to collectors as the ninth plate image. This
means that the image measures approximately 2 inches by 2.5 inches in
size. This image is clear with has the flaking as you can see in the images. The image shows the waist up view of the soldier. He is wearing his frock military coat with the forage style military hat on his head. In his hand, he proudly holds the model 1849 Colt revolver known to collectors as the "Pocket" model. These revolvers that their nickname because compared to the Dragoon revolver of the day, they look like shrunken miniatures. Many soldiers during the Civil War utilized these model 1849 Colt revolvers. The image comes inside of a complete leatherette case. This is a neat and affordable image and will make a wonderful display beside your revolver.
