Beautiful! Excavated U.S. Cartridge Box Plate With Both Loops
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an authentic excavated Civil War U.S. cartridge box plate. This would have adorned the front of a soldier's cartridge box at one time. The weight of the plate helped to keep the outer flap of the cartridge box closed. It has a vividly clear "US" on the brass face of the plate. The back of the plate has a superb amount of the lead still remaining. It still has both of the original iron attachment loops on the back of the plate. These iron loops would have held the plate onto the cartridge box at one time. This artifact came from a collection from outside of Atlanta but I don't know the exact location of recovery. It will enhance any Civil War artifact collection.
