Extremely Rare Original Pack Saddle for the Model 1872 Hotchkiss Mountain Howitzer
Click on an image to enlarge
This is probably you only chance to ever own one of these! This is an original Pack Saddle for the Model 1875 Mountain Howitzer. These Hotchkiss pattern cannon had a 1.65 inch bore. These are the same pattern of Mountain Howitzer that were used at the Massacre at Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota. This pack saddle features a metal burden frame, russet brown leather with a thick quilted pad underneath, and multiple (hooks, loops, straps, and connections) for carrying (guns, cannon tube, ammo, etc..). It measures 18" Long X 22" High. It has the 1900's retailer marking stenciled on the underneath pad "INTERNATIONAL ARMAMENT CORPORATION LTD. BALTIMORE" . In my 30+ years in the business, this is the only one of these I have ever been able to offer. This is a very rare piece of early artillery history!
