Model 1860 Spencer Carbine Cartridge Made After the Civil War
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a neat piece! After the Civil War there were still a lot of the .56 caliber Spencer carbine still being used (The latter models of Spencer went to a smaller caliber bore size). They still made some of the cartridge to fit the older model guns with larger bore sizes. This is one of those cartridges. We know this because on the bottom of the cartridge it has the large "U" stamp. This is for the Union Metallic Cartridge Company that didn't go into business until after the Civil War. The cartridge is the correct .56 caliber size for the model 1860 Spencer carbine or rifle. This one is in excellent non-excavated condition.
