Leather Covered Version Riling Pattern #267 Fluted Sides Design Civil War Era Powder Flask
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an attractive original Civil War era powder flask. The body has the sides that has the fluted design on each side of the brass body. The flask stands about 8 inches tall and is about 3-3/4ths inches across. The spout is present and the spring is as well and the lever to activate the spring is present as well. On the top, it has the Birmingham (England) maker marking still visible. It is the version that is made without the hanging loops on the side. One thing that is neat about this one is that it is the tougher to find version that was covered with leather at the factory. The leather is present with a very pleasing ancient look. This is a leather covered variation of the pattern that is illustrated as figure #267 on page 282 in Ray Riling's book on powder flasks. It has a very attractive overall look!
