Authentic Civil War Cavalry Carbine "Boot" With Metzger Maker Mark
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice complete Civil War cavalry carbine "Boot". These were designed to hold the barrel of the carbine while the soldier was on horseback. They would have strapped to the saddle by the leather belt that runs around the waist of the boot itself. It has the original strap intact as well as the iron buckle for length adjustment. On the end of the length adjuster strap it has the correct Civil War maker's mark of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania firm of Emanuel Metzger. I don't know exactly why but they put a wooden plug in one end of the hole. I guess they could have done this so it could have been used a s a flag base holder. This is a nice solid Civil War boot with a fine look.
