Original 1862 Dated .577 Caliber Civil War Enfield Military Rifle

This is a nice looking gun for the price! It is an original Civil War Enfield pattern .577 caliber rifle. This is the Civil War production made in England like would have been brought through the blockade. It has the 1862 date of production on the lockplate to go along with the "TOWER" arsenal stamp and also the British crown stamp. The action no longer catches on either of the two positions, it seems like the mainspring is broken. They have also replaced the Enfield hammer with a modern made Springfield style hammer. The barrel is full-length and has the British proof marks still visible at the breech. The stamps include the "25" that denotes the bore of the gun as being .577 in caliber. The other proof marks are the correct style proofs. The bore of the gun still has some faint traces of the lands and grooves of rifling visible but the bore looks like a stovepipe. It has the original front sight still nicely intact as is the long range rear sight. The gun has both of the sling swivels removed. It has a modern made replacement ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel that is in nice shape. The stock has a very pretty deep dark tone to the wood that makes it display quite well. This is a very attractive looking Civil War 1862 dated Enfield pattern rifle that displays well for the price.
