WOOL, CAPS & PICK REMAINING! Civil War Percussion Capbox by Young
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine and complete Civil War leather box that held the percussion caps for muskets, pistols or carbines. This one is in solid shape and is 100% Complete. It has both of the belt loops intact on the back of the box. It has the outer flap with the closure tab and brass finial intact. You can see traces of the oval inspector stamp where it was approved for Government service by the Ordnance Department sub-inspector, R. White. When you open it up you can see the traces of the Civil War maker's mark of the S.H. Young firm of Newark, New Jersey. On the inner pocket it still has all of the lamb's wool that was designed to keep the percussion caps from falling out. Also present is the original vent pick that was used for cleaning out the gun's nipples after firing. There are even some of the original caps inside. You don't get a chance at one this nice very often anymore so don't wait.
