Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine looking sword with the original scabbard. It is an original Civil War foot officer's sword & scabbard that is 100% complete. It has the original leather and brass scabbard present with a nice look. The brass mounts and drag are of brass with the main body of the scabbard being constructed of the high quality black bridle leather that is top stitched. The blade is full-length at 30-1/2 inches in length with a fine amount of the original etching intact. It has a good bit of the intricate and ornate engraving still visible on each side. On the front side it has the beautiful spread wing union eagle with lots of other patriotic designs. As you can see above the Eagle it has the United States motto of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" which translates to "from many, one". The back of the blade has lots more ornate engraving including a large script letter "US" lettering. The sword is constructed without a maker's mark, which is often done so the retailer could sell the sword without advertising for the actual maker. The guard and pommel cap are each made of brass and they have a wonderful untouched tone. The handle is intact and has the original sharkskin grip intact with a fine look. All of the original double strand copper wire is present and accounted for on the handle. This is a fine looking original Civil War foot officer sword & scabbard.
