1863 Dated $5 Banking Note From The Eastern Bank in Bangor Maine

Here is a neat Civil War banking note from Bangor, Maine. It was issued from the Eastern bank of Bangor, Maine. The Eastern Bank operated from 1835-78. According to Haxby, "Genuine notes with this date, imprint & overprint were probably not issued." It was issued for the amount of $5.00s with the printed date of issuance of October 1st 1863. It measures 6-3/4th inches by 2-7/8ths inches. In the lower right hand corner it has the paddlewheel steamer. On the left hand side it has the Union eagle. They used the pale orange red ink "5" in the center of the note to help prevent counterfeiting. The note is correctly hand signed and numbered. It comes in an acid-free holder for display and preservation.
