This is a nice looking original Civil War era cavalry saber in scabbard. This is the model 1860 pattern that was the most carried style during the Civil War. This one has a full-length blade with a plated gray color to the steel with a nice look. At the base of the front of the blade are the production date of 1865 along with the "US" mark and the inspector initials of "A.G.M.". On the back of the blade is the maker's mark of the C. Roby Company of West Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Christopher Roby was one of the premier makers of Civil War cavalry saber and as you can see they made a quality product. The guard and pommel cap have have had the brass plated long ago. The wooden grip is original with the leather being lost to the ages. The wire has been added and it has a nice look. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard. This scabbard has the original mounts, rings intact as well as the original drag and throat. Like the blade and guard, it has been plated as well. It is priced according to the plating. This is a nice solid Civil War era cavalry saber that will make a solid addition to your collection.
