This is a superb excavated copper time fuze holder for a Confederate cannon shell. This is the pattern you so often see in Confederate Read shells. This is the version that is pictured on the page 42 in the Civil War artillery shell fuse book by Chuck Jones. It stands 1.38 inches tall and is 1.3 inches across on the head of the fuse. It has a wonderful patina all over. The verbal history that accompanied this piece is that it was found in the 1960's in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia area. Chancellorsville was a battle between the Confederate forces of Robert E. Lee and Union General Joseph Hooker on April 30th until May 6, 1863. It will make a wonderful addition to any artillery collection.
