Original 9th Plate Tintype of an Infantryman Wearing His Frock Coat
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a very nice 9th plate tintype image of a Civil War era soldier. These tintype images were produced by applying the photo emulsion onto a thin tin plate. This is the size that is referred to by collectors as the ninth plate which is 2 inches by 2.5 inches in overall size. This image shows the young soldier wearing his enlisted style frock style uniform. Around his waist, you can see his eagle buckle. The image is missing the original leatherette case and the glass but the brass matt remains. This is a nice original tintype image with a lot of character!
