This is an original Civil War cavalry saber & scabbard. This is the classic model 1860 cavalry saber that was the most used pattern of Civil War saber. This one has a beautiful full-length blade with a light gray tone. The base of the blade is crisply marked by the maker "C.ROBY" who was located in West Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The other side of the blade has the crystal clear production date of 1864 along with the inspector initials of "A.G.M." and the "US" mark. The "A.G.M." mark is where the sword was approved for military use by the U.S. Ordnance Department inspector, Alfred C. Manning. The original grip is present and it also has all of the original wire intact as well. As you can see, the grip of the sword has a very pleasing look with a fine tone to the leather with a great look. The brass guard and pommel cap have a great color to the brass with a rich golden patina. The sword is accompanied by the nice original scabbard that is complete. It has both of the mounts and rings intact as well as the original drag and throat. This is a good looking, superbly marked Civil War cavalry saber in scabbard.
