Great Looking Original Civil War Era Pewter Fife With 1861 Dates
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful original Civil War era fife. This is a very cool pewter/ lead made version that measures 14-3/4ths inches in overall length. This is a neat Civil War style that was carried and used by musicians of the Civil War. The lead has a very pleasing dark gray color all over. On the side of the wood it has the carved "Isaac Norman 1861" and then below that mark it has a small carved Isaac Norman name and another 1861 date. When I looked up Isaac Normans in the Civil War, I found that there were 2 on the Union side and 3 on the Confederate side. Further research might show if one of them was a musician but I will leave that for you. It even has an original pewter "Cheater" with the brass screw to make it easier to play. It will make a superb display piece for your Civil War campsite display.
