This is a very nice looking little gun! It is an original .31 caliber revolver from the famous Whitney firm. In Flayderman's guide he states that they made approximately 32,500 of these guns from "...late 1850's -early 1860's." This one has a couple of neat traits that are different from the standard ones. This one is completely unmarked except for the serial numbers. They usually have the maker marking cross the top of the barrel it has the clear double line maker's mark of "E. WHITNEY" and "N. HAVEN" for the New Haven, Connecticut production location. The barrel is full-length at 4 inches and is designed with the part round barrel that transitions to the octagonal breech. The gun has all matching serial numbers of 8,951, including under the grips. The grips are in very nice shape with a pleasing look to the walnut wood. The action works on all positions. The cylinder is in fine shape. This gun is a pleasing and complete .31 caliber unmarked Whitney revolver with matching #'s.
