Fine Non-Excavated Model 1870 Gun Tool With Nipple Wrench
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a superb original gun tool for the Civil War era .58 caliber Springfield rifle that was altered after the Civil War to be used with the model 1870 rifle and carbine. It is identical to the Civil War tool except that the screwdriver blade was thinned down to fit the smaller screws used in the breech of the post-Civil War guns. This is the correct style that will display well with your model 1868 or 1870 rifle or carbine. This pattern is illustrated on page 167 of the gun tool book. It has the two flat blades for screwdrivers and on the other end it has the nipple wrench tool. This is a great looking non-excavated original gun tool.
