This is a great group of 10 original coat size eagle buttons. These have been excavated from campsites here in the Shiloh, Tennessee area. These are the style you see on the coats of the men that actually fought the war. They would have adorned the coats of the regular enlisted men of the Civil War. Each button has the classic eagle design on the font with the shield in the eagle's chest. In one talon she holds the arrows of war and in the other the olive branch of peace. All of these buttons also have the original backs and 8 of the buttons have the shanks remaining on the reverse. Some of them have some damage as you see in the pictures and they are priced accordingly. They will have various Civil War date backmarks. The Verbal history that accompanied these pieces is that they were recovered years ago on private property here in the Shiloh, Tennessee area. The price quoted is for the exact 10 excavated coat size General Service buttons you see pictured.
