Shiloh Attributed Confederate D-Guard Bowie Knife with Cool Hand Guard
Click on an image to enlarge
What a cool excavated artifact! It is an original excavated Confederate D-Guard bowie knife. This is the classic side knife that was utilized so well by the Confederate soldier. This one is a great fighting size and measures 21-3/4ths inches in overall length with the blade making up 15-3/4ths of those inches. It has the nice iron that you can tell has been out of the ground for quite a while. The blade has a really cool look that you see in the images. What makes this one really stand out is that the handguard is made out of a piece of hand hammered. The brass of the hand guard is in fine shape and has the curved "S" shaped quillion that stands extremely tall. It is amazing and is solid as a rock. The handle of the knife would have been made of wood and has long since deteriorated from the years in the ground. The piece is accompanied by a 1997 letter statin g that it is attributed to having been found in the area of the Shiloh Battlefield. If you have wanted a really nice excavated Confederate knife then this one is for you. What a great piece from the South!
