Original Civil War Cavalry Carbine Sling with Maker Marked Snap
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a piece that you don't see offered for sale very often anymore. It is an original cavalry carbine sling with snap and buckle. This is the classic style that would have been used by a Civil War cavalryman to secure his carbine so he wouldn't loose it. It has the snap on one end that goes through the saddle ring on the backside of a carbine. Inside the snap, it has the maker stamping of the O.B. North firm of New Haven, Connecticut. The leather part went over the cavalryman's shoulder and he could adjust the length with the brass buckle. They had the "batwing" tip to keep the leather end from fraying from use. The tip is present on this one and is in fine shape. The leather is 54 inches in length. Many of these were cut down after the Civil War and used during the Indian Wars. The leather is still pliable after all of the years. This is a great piece that will display superbly with your Civil War cavalry carbine or in your leather display either way.
