Original Pair of Tin Sabot Straps for a Civil War 24# Solid Shot Cannonball
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a neat artillery piece that doesn't cost a fortune! It is an original set of tin straps from a Civil War cannonball. These are the tin straps that held the cannonball onto the sabot which would have been made of wood. This is the version that would have been used on the 24# solid shot cannonballs. They are in excellent non-excavated condition. These are originals that were sold by the U.S. Government after the end of the Civil War. They were bought up by the famous Bannerman family of New York. The Bannerman's sold the surplus military items such as this for almost 100 years after the Civil War. All of us collectors owe the Bannermans a big thank you for aiding the early preservation of many of the Civil War relics such as these straps. Each strap still retains some of the original finish on the tin and they were already hat the small holes in the end that the tacks would have gone through to hold the ball onto the wooden sabot. You get the actual straps that are pictured for the price of $68.00.
