Authentic Civil War Military Model 1863 Pattern Sharps Cavalry Carbine
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice looking weapon for the price! It is an original and classic Civil War Sharps cavalry carbine. This is the model 1863 and is so marked on the top of the barrel. It also has the remnants of the Sharps Rifle Company maker mark and Hartford, Connecticut production location. The lockplate has the clear Sharps patent mark and dates. As you can see all of the Sharps markings and patent dates are still present throughout the gun. The action catches on both of the two positions. It has the serial number of "C,5389" on the tang of the frame and it matches the number underneath the barrel. This markings stands for the serial number of 105,389 and is well within the Civil War production ranges. The barrel is full-length and has the original front sight intact. At the breech of the barrel, it has the original sight base but the blade is an incorrect replacement. The hinge pin on the block is also a replacement. The bore of the gun has nice lands and grooves still visible. On the back of the gun it has the saddle ring bar present with the ring as well. The shoulder stock has the untouched dark tone with service nicks and dings you expect from a gun that was actually used. It has a crack on each side of the barrel tang and wrist but it seems solid. The forestock is a replacement but appears to be old. This is a good looking desirable Civil War military model Sharps cavalry carbine that was used but not abused.
