Original Civil War CDV Image of Union General Quincy Adams Gilmore
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an original CDV image of Union General Quincy Adams Gillmore (February 28, 1825 – April 7, 1888). Gilmore was born in Loraine County, Ohio. He graduated West Point Military Academy in 1849. He was noted for his actions in the Union victory at Fort Pulaski, where his modern rifled artillery readily pounded the fort's exterior stone walls, an action that essentially rendered stone fortifications obsolete. He earned an international reputation as an organizer of siege operations and helped revolutionize the use of naval gunnery. This image shows the General in his uniform and you can see the star on the shoulder insignia. The back of the card is unmarked and has some old residue from a previous mounting. It is a nice clear image of this famous Union General.
