This is a great piece of Confederate history. It is the non-excavated coat size Confederate artillery button listed as figure CS117 in Albert's book and CSA275a1 in Tice's button book. This one is in excellent shape with the copper front that has the block style "A" that denotes the Artillery branch of service. The face is absolutely gorgeous. The original back and shank are intact as well and both are in superb shape. This is the pattern with the tinback and the copper shank. You see these in excavated condition fairly regularly but it isn't often you get a chance at one in non-dug condition like this beauty. It is spectacular!
