This is an original Civil War era CDV image of Civil War General William Buel Franklin. Franklin was born on February 27, 1823, at York, Pennsylvania. In 1843 he graduated from West Point at the top of his class, which included future President Grant. He served with distinction during the Mexican-American War. During the Civil War Franklin led troops throughout the peninsular campaign, the Maryland campaign including South Mountain and Antietam. He commanded a division at the battle of Fredericksburg, and the huge failure their shattered Franklin's career. He was then sent West to fight with general Nathaniel Banks in the Red River campaign. After the Civil War he held a very lucrative post of general manager of the Colt Firearms Company in Hartford, Connecticut. He held this post for 22 years. It is a full view of the general in a stately pose. The image shows the general in his uniform with his General insignia showing on his collar. On the bottom of the image it has the General's name printed in pencil. This is one of the versions that was printed by Anthony using one of the negatives of Mathew Brady. This is a solid original Civil War Union General CDV image.
