Here is an attractive Colt .36 caliber Civil War production revolver. It is an original model 1862 pattern .36 caliber Colt. They have been nicknamed the "police" model by collectors but they were more often used outside of the law enforcement area. This one has matching serial numbers of 19,763 including the barrel wedge. These numbers lets us know that the gun would have been made in 1863. It has the distinctive fluted sides to the cylinder. In one of the flutes you can see the patent date stamp. The barrel is the version that is 4-1/2 inches long and across the top of the barrel it has the Colt maker's mark and New York Location still clearly visible. The New York City address is the location of the sales office with the actual production location being in Hartford, Connecticut. The action of the revolver is fully functional on all positions. The hammer screw has been replaced by an incorrect replacement. This one has the original 1-piece walnut grips intact on the handle of the gun and they even retain some of the original varnish. The brass of the backstrap and triggerguard have a golden tone to the brass. This is a very pleasing looking .36 caliber Colt model 1862 revolver with 1863 serial numbers.
