Brass Flagstaff Tip With Pole Section From The 1898 Cincinnati GAR Reunion
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a piece that you don't see offered for sale every day. It is an original tip portion of a post Civil War era flagstaff. This is the smaller size that would have been used on a flag of smaller size like a guidon. It has the spade like design to the brass with the spine in the center. At the base of the tip it still has the portion that goes over the wooden shaft of the flagstaff. There is a good size section of the flap pole remaining. The tip portion measures 8 inches by 35/8ths inches in overall size. The overall size of the piece measures 36 inches in length. The pole retains some of the original black paint. It has a painted inscription that attributes the piece to the "32nd G.A.R. Encampment Cincinnati, Sept. 5th to 10th 1898 Reunion and Campfire." It has been nicely mounted on a pine wood board. It is ready to hang on your wall. This is a fine looking piece from all angles.
