Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautifully designed Civil War cadet button. This is the one listed as SU150av in Albert's button book and as NC270Am1 in Tice's book. It is the 19mm size button for the Hillsborough Military Academy that was located in Hillsborough, North Carolina. The face of the button has the school name as well as the star and "NC" letters in the center of the button. It has the lined background. This one is in beautiful excavated condition with the original gold gilding remaining on the face in just the right places to make it stand out. The face has a push that doesn't show up in the images but is mentioned for exactness and it is priced accordingly. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. It has the correct Schuyler Hartley & Graham of New York backmark. They were actually produced by the Scovill firm in Waterbury, Connecticut around 1859 and 1860. This is a great looking Confederate used Hillsborough Military Academy cadet button.
