Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine authentic excavated coat size Civil War Artillery 23mm button. The face of the button has the spread-wing eagle with the "A" shield on its chest. This denotes the artillery branch of service. As you see, the face of the button has beautiful original gold gilding remainingwith a slight push to the center. The original back with the shank lost to the ages. This is the version that has the backmark of Schuyler Hartley & Graham of New York. This is a tougher backmark to find on these coat size buttons. This one was excavated years ago in the area of Fort Fisher, North Carolina. This is a nice dug original Civil War artillery officer's button.
