What a neat piece of currency! This is a
very attractive original Civil War 10 cent note from the Merchants &
Planters Bank in the state of Georgia.
It was issued from Savannah, Georgia and is so marked on the front of the note
along with the hand printed date of issuance of July 1st 1863. The note is
correctly hand signed, dated and numbered in nice old ink. The note is in well-circulated condition and
displays well as you can see. As you see, the back of the note it was printed on bank of St. Mary's notes. They used this paper because it would have been cheaper than new paper during the War. You hear this referred to as "Hard Times" money sometimes. The overall size of the note measures 3-3/4ths inches by 2 inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
