This is a nice, authentic and tough to find .36 caliber model of Remington revolver. This is the Civil War pattern of .36 caliber Remington revolver. The metal on the gun has a nice surface with a pleasing brown and gray tone. It has the "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION NEW YORK U.S.A./NEW MODEL". The Remington maker's mark and Ilion, New York production location are still clear. It has matching serial numbers of 30,636, which is in the earlier part of their production of this model. They started marking these "New model" Remington revolvers at 23,000 which was the end of the model 1861 "old Model" revolver. There were only 28,000 of these "new" model revolvers made during their 1863-1878 production. The action catches on all positions. On the handle of the gun it has the original 2-piece walnut grip intact. The grips of the gun display well. This is a nice looking original .36 caliber Remington "new model" Civil War revolver.
