Scarce Dug Authentic Civil War Gallagher Cavalry Carbine Cartridge
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original metallic cartridge for the Gallagher patent Civil War cavalry carbine. This is the pattern pictured as figure #83 in the cartridge section of McKee & Mason's bullet book. These were designed with the brass body and then have the paper cover. You see quite a few of these in non-excavated condition but you very rarely see these in excavated condition. This is a nice dug cartridge that was found near City Point, Virginia decades ago. The brass is still solid and the bullet has a good white color.
