Authentic 1861 Dated .577 Caliber Civil War Enfield Military Rifle

This is an original Civil War Enfield pattern .577 caliber rifle. This is the Civil War production made in England like would have been brought through the blockade. It has the clear 1861 date of production on the lockplate to go along with the "TOWER" arsenal stamp and also the British crown stamp. The action still catches crisply on both positions. The barrel is full-length and has the British proof marks clearly visible at the breech. The stamps include the "*25*25*" that denotes the bore of the gun as being .577 in caliber. The bore of the gun looks has some pitting but you can still clearly see the the lands and grooves of the rifling. It has the original front sight still nicely intact as well as the rear sight. The rear sight is the correct Enfield pattern sight. The gun has had the 2 sling swivels removed long ago. It has the modern made reproduction full-length ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel. The stock has a dark and well worn tone to the wood that makes it display well. On the belly of the stock, behind the triggerguard, it has the stock maker marking of the Cook & Sons firm still partially visible. On the flat of the stock, opposite of the lockplate, it has the initials "W.F.W." deeply carved into the wood. This is a very attractive looking Civil War 1861 dated Enfield pattern rifle.
