Very Cool Civil War N.C.O. Sword Made into a Fighting Knife

Here is a cool piece! This knife started out life as a Civil War non-commissioned officer's sword. It would have been the classic sword carried by corporals and sergeants during the War. But evidently the soldier needed something more functional for up close combat. They trimmed down the blade to its current length of 13-1/2 inches. It measures 19-3/4ths inches in overall size. They used the original cast brass handle with the round pommel holding it together. They trimmed down the hand guard which would have taken some work. After its service, they painted the blade silver and it has most of the silver remaining. The paint covers up any markings that there would have been on the blade base. What a neat piece!
