1860 Dated Pocket Bible From the New York Bible Society
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a neat little piece! It was printed in 1860 by the New York Bible Society in New York City. It has their mark clearly printed on the title page. This is the small size pocket bible that was so often carried by soldiers during the Civil War. It measures 3 inches by 4-3/4ths inches in overall size. You can tell by the wear on the corners that this one was actually carried. We don't know who had it during the Civil War but there is a name inscription on the page that reads "Lanette Pinto from her father June 23 of 61". It also has the applied red, white and blue label with the flag that has the banner that reads "To the defenders of their Country!". The back cover is separated but hanging on. This is a very nice small piece of Civil War history!
