This is an authentic excavated cuff size uniform button from the state of New York. This is the classic Civil War New York with the shield in the center and the "EXCELSIOR" written below it. It has some traces of the gold gilding remaining but it does have the push on the face and it is priced accordingly. The original back is intact with the original shank. This is the version that is listed as figure NY30AV in Albert's book and NY220as in Tice's button book. he verbal history that accompanied this button is that it was found in the 1960's in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia area. Chancellorsville was a battle between the Confederate forces of Robert E. Lee and Union General Joseph Hooker on April 30th until May 6, 1863. This button will make a neat New York to add to your button collection.
