Here is a beautifully designed note from the Bank of the State of the state of South Carolina. It was issued from Charleston, South Carolina. This $10 Bank of the State of South Carolina note was issued from October 1st 1861 The central vignette is entitled "The Rescue and depicts Sergeant Jasper Newton freeing prisoners from the British in 1781". It was engraved by James Bannister based on the painting by John B. White. Portraits of Generals Morgan and Pickens are also included on the note. The note is in nice circulated condition. When you hold the note up to the light you can see the "X" slices in the paper. This is the "Cut Cancellation" marking that lets us know the note was taken out of circulation by the state. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
