Here is an early United States rifleman button. This is the coat size button worn by the riflemen that will date from the 1810's and 1820's. This is the classic style that was worn during the War of 1812. The front of the button has the "RR" in the center on the plain field. On the reverse of the button it was missing the shank which is why the soldier would have lost it. It has had a modern shank added to the back. This is the pattern that is illustrated as figure RF1 in Albert's button book. This is a great looking button compared to most of them you encounter.
