Beautiful Slightly Post War Massachusetts Uniform with 32 Mass Coat Button
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is your chance to own a fantastic looking uniform that is likely made just after the Civil War. This is a beautiful military uniform as a style that is referred to collectors as a "swallowtail coatee." This one is for the state of Massachusetts. We know this because of the Massachusetts state seal uniform buttons of the style listed as MS32 in Albert's Button Book. . This one has 37 coat size buttons as well as 6 of the cuff size versions. These were made by the famous Waterbury, Connecticut firm of Scovill & Co. The buttons are all post-Civil War in production. The coat is likely from the early 1870's. The uniform has the pretty deep dark blue cloth with the white and gold trim. You can see that it had the tab style epaulets at one time but they have been removed eons ago. When you look inside the coat you see the original lining in the body and sleeves with a nice worn look. It has an old ink stamping but all I can make out is is "Philadelphia Depot". The coat looks great with a straight out of the attic appearance. You get a wonderful looking uniform for a fraction of the price of what a 100% Civil War manufacture uniform would cost.
