This is an original metallic cartridge for the Civil War Spencer Repeating Cavalry Carbine or rifle. The cartridge is the correct .56 caliber which would have fit the model 1860 Spencer repeating rifle or carbine. It is a great excavated artifact from the famous Spencer repeater. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that the recovered the piece in the area of the battle of Kennesaw, Georgia. It has one nice display side and the hole in the other side of the casing and it is priced accordingly. The price quoted is for the exact excavated Spencer Carbine cartridge you see pictured.
