Marshall Texas Attributed Excavated Civil War Cannon Friction Primer
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original excavated Civil War cannon friction primer. These were inserted into the vent hole of the cannon to cause the spark that set off the powder charge and the cannon to fire. The brass tube portion is about 1-3/4ths inches long. It has an original twisted wire at the top that is an original and has been put back in place for display. You don't see these very often these days in excavated condition. This one is excavated and beautiful condition as you can see. The small paper tag that accompanied this piece is that it was recovered at the Marshall, Texas Arsenal. I have never seen another so I can't verify this information but it is smaller than most that you encounter. This is a cool Civil War artillery relic.
